    If you decide to try the flower pot, get a higher wattage hot plate. Mine was 750 watts and it was fine in the summer. Couldn't keep up with Connecticut's winter temps though.

    Try an Alton Brown flower pot smoker (Google it). No high heat cooks, but it's great for smoking butts and such. Electric hot plate and a cake pan filled with wood chunks.
